What's in a Name? - Thursday, July 6, 2006
It finally dawned on me that having an eccentric name like Anson does have some advantages.

On the one hand, it's frustrating when everybody I meet mutilates my name a few times before it clicks. It's not their fault, but it gets somewhat annoying when I introduce myself and they struggle to get it right- "Did you say Hanson? Manson? Arson?" Sometimes I feel like introducing myself with a name that everybody knows... like "Bob."

But once they do learn my name, using it is unambiguous. "Go talk to Anson about it." "Hi this is Anson returning your message." It's like I don't need a last name.

I guess a little grief in the beginning goes a long way.
